Abstract

Objective: To verify the knowledge of the DS about the morphofunctional treatment of the face and propose a model of updating course from the identified knowledge gaps. Methods: Descriptive-exploratory study, with a quantitative approach, conducted with active DS and registered with the Regional Council of Dentistry of São Paulo, in 2023, through the application of a validated questionnaire. Data were described by absolute and relative frequencies for categorical variables and by medians and quartiles for quantitative variables. Results: The 696 respondents had a mean assertiveness of 72.3% regarding knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of the morphofunctional approach of the face, with lower assertiveness (50%) for questions about bichectomy and orthodontic decompensatory preparation for orthognathic surgery. Graduates without any postgraduate degree were those who expressed the greatest interest in updating their knowledge about OFH (69.6%), with lower assertiveness scores for all questions compared to others with postgraduate degrees. An update course on the subject is proposed, containing 10 modules and a total load of 60 hours. Conclusion: DS have satisfactory knowledge regarding the morphofunctional aspect of the face, demonstrating interest in updating themselves on the subject after graduation.
