Abstract
Objective: To understand the triggering factors of puerperal psychosis and to describe the impacts and implications of this mental disorder on women's health. Methods: This is an integrative review composed of assets published between 2013 and 2023 in Portuguese, English or Spanish and with content made available in full. As a guiding question of the research, it was used: What are the impacts that psychosis in the postpartum period systematizes to women's health?. The bibliographic search was carried out between June and August 2023, and searches were carried out in the following databases: IBECS, MedLine, LILACS and Acervo+ Index Base. The following descriptors were used: "Psychoses", "Postpartum Period" and "Women's Health" with the Boolean operator "AND". Results: 11 publications that met the inclusion criteria demonstrated that puerperal psychosis creates deficits in the health of mothers and babies, as well as, if not identified and treated early, favors the occurrence of psychiatric disorders ranging from mood swings to anxiety-related disorders. Final considerations: The findings denote clinical depreciation of the mother-infant binomial, resulting in greater aggravations to maternal health resulting from psychosis. National studies are scarce, which requires the development of research that emphasizes the Brazilian reality.
