Abstract

Objective: To analyze the risk factors involved in the development of the burnout syndrome in healthcare professionals, with the aim of obtaining an in-depth understanding of the elements that contribute to the emergence of physical and mental exhaustion. Methods: Integrative, exploratory and qualitative review of research on the main risk factors associated with Burnout Syndrome in healthcare professionals. This was done through searches in the scientific databases PubMed, VHL and SciELO. The established inclusion criteria were: original articles available in electronic format, in full, free of charge, written in Portuguese, English or Spanish, with a time limit from 2018 to 2022. The investigation was carried out in November 2023. Results: With the research carried out, 2,125 articles were found, of which 1,025 were selected for reading and, according to the objective of this work, 15 were included in the research. Final considerations: It is considered that the high emotional tension experienced by healthcare professionals, when they are in an environment of extreme pressure, increases the likelihood of burnout syndrome and/or occupational stress. It is important to identify patterns early and evaluate the main risk factors, to minimize impacts and provide prevention strategies.
