Abstract
Objective: The objective was to verify the rates of notified and confirmed cases of congenital syphilis (CS) in the state of Pará, from 2017 to 2022. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, retrospective, quantitative study based on notified and confirmed cases of CS in Pará between 2017 and 2022, notified by the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) of the Pará State Health Department (SESPA). Results: 7030 cases of Congenital Syphilis were recorded, with a noticeable increase after the COVID-19 pandemic, with the exception of 2020, which corresponded to (14%), the same rate recorded for 2017. However, the infection reached its highest peak in 2022 (22%), respectively. With regard to testing for syphilis and HIV, there was a significant increase in diagnoses of co-infection for both STIs between 2018 and 2021. Conclusion: There is a need for socio-educational actions to start prenatal care in the first trimester as a strategy for the early detection of syphilis, providing time for prophylaxis and treatment, reducing damage to the infectious diseases of the mother-child binomial, as well as HIV co-infection, which is a major concern for health authorities in the region.
