Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the main oral manifestations in patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Literature Review: Based on the data obtained, oral manifestations were present in the majority of patients undergoing antineoplastic treatment. Oral mucositis and xerostomia were the most prevalent oral conditions. In addition, age, stage of treatment and type of drug were directly associated with the appearance of these manifestations. Knowledge and understanding of oral complications in patients undergoing oncological treatment with chemotherapy and radiotherapy are of paramount importance for the dental surgeon's role in managing these alterations and better therapeutic conduct Final considerations: The study concluded that in addition to oral mucositis and xerostomia, many other conditions are also reported, such as dysgeusia and oral candidiasis. These conditions can be affected by age, treatment phase, type of chemotherapy and location of irradiation.
