Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the perception of quality of life and the prevalence of anxiety and depression in cancer patients and investigate whether there is total pain in these patients, considering the four dimensions (physical, emotional, social and spiritual). Methods: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional, observational study, with a quantitative approach. The population consisted of patients undergoing oncology treatment at a hospital and a reference oncology clinic in a city in the interior of Minas Gerais between July and August 2023. Questionnaires were administered to assess sociodemographic data, quality of life, anxiety and depression. Results: The majority of quality of life remained preserved, thanks to good assistance and monitoring from the multidisciplinary team. Patients who had a lower quality of life had a higher prevalence of anxiety and depression. Regarding total pain (impairment in all four dimensions (physical, emotional, social and spiritual), only 2.0% of the studied population presented performance less than or equal to 50%, configuring a total pain situation. Conclusion: The team's reflection interdisciplinary approach about the connection between the concept of Total Pain made it possible to understand the complexity and uniqueness involved in the care of cancer patients, resulting in better clinical outcomes.
