Abstract

Objective: To define the clinical-sociodemographic profile of oncological hemodialysis patients in the Renal Replacement Therapy Service of an oncology hospital in Northern Brazil. Methods: Descriptive, observational and retrospective study, with data from November 2023 present in medical records of cancer patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis treatment in the hospital. Results: In the sociodemographic profile of the patients, there was a predominance of females (66.6%), aged between 60-89 years (53.3%), brown race/color (63.3%), incomplete primary education (50%), income ≤ 1 minimum wage (73.3%), performing manual/physical work (30%) and care work (30%), as well as originating from the interior of the state of Pará (66.6%). 30% of patients had no complications related to hemodialysis and 30% had localized pain. Cervical Cancer (46.6%) and Prostate Cancer (16.6%) were the predominant oncological diseases. The most common nephrological diagnosis was Obstructive Nephropathy (66.6%). In the laboratory, Serum Ferritin was, on average, elevated when compared to reference values, while Hemoglobin and Hematocrit were reduced; other variables analyzed presented adequate values or specific changes. Conclusion: Many patients studied are socially and economically vulnerable, with preventable and early diagnosed oncological diseases, bringing to light an inefficient regional health service.
