Abstract

Objective: To describe the epidemiological profile of hospitalizations due to heart failure in Pará between 2012 and 2022 and compare it with the national scenario. Methods: This is a descriptive and quantitative epidemiological study, analyzing hospital morbidity from heart failure in Pará from 2012 to 2022. Data were collected from the SUS hospital information system, considering variables such as age group, sex, color/race, health region, average length of stay, and mortality rate. Data analysis was performed using Microsoft Office Excel®. Results: A total of 53,236 hospitalizations due to heart failure were recorded, mainly in the Metropolitan Region I, with the highest occurrence in 2012 and a trend of reduction over the years. The predominant age group was 70 to 79 years (24.5%), with a predominance of males (57%) and pardos (mixed race) (57%). The mortality rate was 9.28%, higher in the Lower Amazon, with a 4% increase in deaths, affecting more white males. The average hospital stay was 7.7 days, with a growth trend, predominantly among whites. Conclusion: The profile of hospitalizations due to heart failure in Pará predominantly includes pardos, males, and individuals over 60 years old, with a decreasing hospitalization rate and an increasing mortality rate.
