Abstract

Objective: To characterize the epidemiological profile of malaria in the state of Pará, between the years 2006 and 2022. Methods: This is a descriptive, ecological, retrospective research with a quantitative approach, with data collected from the Epidemiological Surveillance Information System. The data were tabulated and organized in Excel spreadsheets from the Microsoft Office package and presented in graphs. Results: Between the years 2006 and 2022, 927,875 cases were registered throughout the state of Pará. The mesoregion with the highest number of cases was in Marajó, with 32.8% of cases, followed by the regions: Southwest with 31.7%, Northeast: 18%; Southeast: 11.2%; Lower Amazonas: 5.9% and Metropolitana: 0.4%. Over the last 16 years, it has been observed that there is a downward trend in the number of cases. Despite this, there was a change in the classification of the average Annual Parasitic Index - IPA in 2022, from low to medium. Conclusion: Therefore, the mesoregions of Marajó and Southwest are those that need to be placed as a priority in the formulation of public health policies. Furthermore, regardless of location, constant monitoring of malaria is essential, as there has been a recent increase in the number of cases.
