Abstract
Objective: To understand adolescent puerperal women's perceptions of their potential, weaknesses and health education during prenatal consultations carried out by obstetric nursing residents. Methods: This is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study, with content analysis based on Bardin's framework. The semi-structured interviews involved six puerperal adolescents from a Family Health Strategy in the south of Minas Gerais. Results: The potentialities identified included agility, problem-solving, welcoming and humanization. Barriers were pointed out, such as staff turnover and the disparity between medical and nursing care, as well as between public and private services. The nurses provided guidance on various topics, including pregnancy complications, encouraging physical activity, breastfeeding and emotional issues. Conclusion: Several strengths of the prenatal consultation carried out by obstetric nursing residents were highlighted, along with the approach to relevant educational content. However, weaknesses were pointed out which suggest the existence of barriers to the consolidation of this professional within the scope of prenatal care.
