Abstract
Objective: To identify the perceptions of nursing students in the first and last semesters of the course in relation to the role of nurses during labor. Methods: This is a qualitative research with a methodological approach that aims to understand and interpret the meanings and complexities of cultural and behavioral phenomena related to nurses' actions during labor. 30 undergraduate nursing students participated in the study, divided equally between the first and eighth term. The interviews, with an average duration of 5 to 10 minutes, were transcribed and analyzed in search of recurring and significant themes. Results: Emotional assistance was mentioned as crucial for the well-being and tranquility of patients. It was highlighted that the presence of nurses can be decisive in critical moments, providing quick and effective interventions. Furthermore, the nurse's role is seen as essential to prevent inappropriate or violent practices during childbirth, promoting a safer and more humanized experience for mother and baby. Conclusion: It was concluded that the present study indicates that academics perceive the presence of nurses as an effective strategy for reducing stress and anxiety in parturient women, promoting a humanized birth experience.
