Abstract
Aim: This study analyzed the impacts of remote education during the COVID-19 pandemic reported by adolescents with ADHD. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study with adolescents diagnosed with ADHD at a private school in Recife/PE. Online questionnaires were applied to assess the challenges and learning strategies reported by adolescents during remote learning. Results: The survey revealed that the majority of the 69 participants faced significant challenges, such as concentration difficulties (88.4%), lower than expected school performance (65.2%) and disorganization (67.6%). In addition, many adolescents reported symptoms of anxiety (58%) and sleep difficulties (56.5%). Psychological support was crucial for some of the students, but 42.6% had stopped taking ADHD medication, which may have aggravated their symptoms. Family support was present for 70.6% of the participants. Conclusion: These adolescents faced marked challenges in remote education, highlighting the need for educational policies that offer adequate support to this group. Strategies such as the creation of structured home environments and the use of technological tools can mitigate the negative impacts of distance learning, in addition to ongoing psychological monitoring and greater family involvement being essential to ensure academic progress and emotional well-being.
