Abstract
Objectives: Investigate the impacts of food allergies on the growth and development of preschool children. Methods: An integrative literature review was carried out, using the descriptors Food Hypersensitivity as a means of search; Child, Preschool; Growth and Development. The search was carried out in the following databases: VHL, PubMed and Lilacs, using as inclusion criteria: articles published in the last 10 years, full text, English, Portuguese or Spanish. The exclusion criteria included duplicate articles that do not address the topic. Results: Through this, it was observed that children under 2 years of age have low percentile indices of body mass compared to children over 2 years of age who have allergies to cow's milk protein. The most common symptoms in food allergies are itching, erythema, hives and abdominal pain, in addition, children with this disease have poor growth and cognitive development. Final considerations: As a result, food allergies, by implying possible nutritional deficiencies, impair growth and development, as well as cause damage to other aspects of the child's life, since the need to buy food formulas impacts on greater financial expenses for the family. Thus, further studies on this subject are needed.
