Abstract

Objective: To assess the risks of pathogenic suffering, work-related health damage and whether there is a relationship with cardiovascular diseases. Methods: This study has a cross-sectional observational nature and a quantitative paradigm. 73 individuals registered in diaries from the last two years participated in the cardiovascular diseases outpatient clinic belonging to a University hospital in Rio Grande do Sul. Data collection was carried out through an electronic form sent to patients, using the Pathogenic Suffering Scale as an instrument. And the Work-Related Injury Assessment Scale. The data was processed through statistical analysis. Results: Among the findings, it was observed, through the Pathogenic Suffering at Work Scale, that participants had a low risk of developing pathogenic suffering related to their work experiences before the cardiological event they suffered. The Work-Related Harm Assessment Scale identified a low risk of psychosocial (61.6%) and social (65.8%) harm and a medium risk of developing physical harm (52.1%).  Conclusion: The risk assessment was positive, demonstrating that professionally active patients had a low risk of developing pathogenic suffering before the cardiological event, however, a medium risk for developing physical damage was identified.
