Abstract

Objective: To investigate in the scientific literature the functional disabilities generated during the postoperative period of head and neck oncological surgeries, and the care strategies carried out by the nursing team. Methods: Integrative literature review, carried out in the PubMed, SciELO and BVS databases, using combined descriptors and levels of evidence to select the articles. Results: Thirteen studies were analyzed, organized into two categories: in Category 1, the clinical results highlighted cervical dysfunction, dysphagia and communication difficulties, especially in advanced cases and after aggressive treatments. In Category 2, nursing interventions demonstrated measures to reduce anxiety and depression, improve patient satisfaction and accelerate recovery. However, the need for standardized protocols and continuous training of professionals was noted. Final considerations: Despite the challenges in managing disabilities, coordinated nursing action, combined with the multidisciplinary approach, can promote comprehensive care and contribute to improving quality of life, etc.
