Abstract
Objective: To describe and compare the profile of mortality from malignant breast neoplasms (MBN) in women across the states and regions of Brazil from 2019 to 2023. Methods: This is an ecological, retrospective, time series study using data obtained from the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), Mortality Information System (SIM), and the resident population. Female deaths due to MBN (ICD-10: C50) were analyzed. The mortality coefficient (MoC) was calculated, and descriptive and inferential analyses were applied (p<0.05). Results: During the analyzed period, 93,300 deaths were recorded, with the highest concentration in the Southeast region. An increase in the national MoC was observed, from 2.13 to 2.30 between 2019 and 2023. The South region had the highest MoC throughout the period, with an average of 2.54 (95%CI: 2.35–2.72), andamong the states, Rio de Janeiro stood out. Most deaths occurred among white, married women, with 8 to 11 years of schooling, aged between 50 and 59 years, and deaths were mostly recorded in hospitals. Conclusion: The higher MoC for MBN in the South region and in Rio de Janeiro may reflect greater screening coverage and population density. Expanding prevention, diagnosis, and treatment is essential to ensure equitable access and reduce inequalities among Brazilian states and regions.
