Abstract
Objective: To map the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in nursing care practice. Method: This is an integrative review guided by the research question: How has AI been used in nursing care? The literature search was conducted in September 2024 using the main health science databases. Results: Seven studies published in the last five years were selected. The evidence highlights various AI applications, including clinical data management, clinical decision support, task automation, improved documentation, and enhanced financial efficiency. The “Laura Robot” system was notably cited as a promising tool for the early detection of sepsis. In addition, the studies addressed critical challenges, such as ethical concerns, data privacy and security, and the ongoing need for human supervision to ensure proper and safe implementation. Conclusion: AI shows great potential for optimizing nursing care by enhancing efficiency and supporting clinical decisions. However, its use remains limited in high-risk situations, such as emergencies where immediate human response is essential.
