Abstract

Objective: To analyze the scientific literature on skin cancer. Methods: This is an integrative literature review conducted in the SCOPUS, PORTAL CAPES, LILACS, MEDLINE, and CINAHL databases. Results: After selection and analysis of eligibility criteria, 14 studies were included in this integrative review. The scientific evidence analyzed showed that skin cancer is more common in women in Brazil. The most affected age group is over 60, with phototypes I and II, and the main occupation is farming. Data on education are scarce. BCC is more prevalent in Caucasians, while SCC is more common in Blacks. Skin examination, including dermoscopy, is of great value in increasing diagnostic accuracy. The development of technologies that facilitate diagnosis or early medical care have a positive impact on the fight against skin cancer. Final Considerations: Skin cancer is a public health problem that requires attention, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Knowledge of epidemiological aspects is essential for health promotion activities involving the most affected population.
