Abstract

Objective: To investigate the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic on the work processes of residents in the Multiprofessional Residency in Family Health, with emphasis on the emerging mental health demands in the territory. Methods: This is a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study conducted in the municipality of Sobral (CE), based on semi-structured interviews with 11 tutors who worked between 2019 and 2021. Data were analyzed using Bardin's Thematic Content Analysis. Results: Five main categories emerged: increase in psychological suffering among users and professionals; fragility of comprehensive and longitudinal care; challenges in reorganizing care flows and collective practices; lack of training in biosafety and crisis management; and weakening of Family Health Strategy practices. Emotional impact on residents was also identified, along with the need to develop interprofessional competencies such as qualified listening, network-based care, care management, and emotional resilience. Conclusion: It is concluded that the residency program must reorient its training to develop competencies focused on mental health care in crisis scenarios. This is the main contribution of the study, despite its local scope.
