Abstract

Objective: To analyze the relationship between the use of electronic cigarettes by medical students and the occurrence of symptoms of cardiovascular diseases, comparing them to non-users. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted with 120 individuals of both sexes (including people who identify with another gender or who chose not to declare), aged 18 years or older. Users were assessed regarding their use of electronic cigarettes and their perception of risk. The assessment was carried out using a questionnaire that included frequency of use, cardiovascular health history, risk factors, and need for cardiovascular care. Results: The sample, with an age range of 18 years and older, showed a female majority (62.5%), followed by males (32.5%), individuals who identify with another gender (4.16%), and one person who did not identify (0.83%). Conclusion: The limitations of the study include adherence of only 13% of the medical students in the study population. Nevertheless, the study contributes to academic awareness and further research on electronic cigarettes and their impacts on Brazilian health.
