Abstract

Objective: To describe the epidemiological profile and time trend of acquired syphilis in the elderly (≥ 60 years) in Roraima, from 2014 to 2024. Methods: A descriptive and retrospective epidemiological study was conducted using data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN). Sociodemographic and clinical variables, as well as case trends, were analyzed. Results: The elderly accounted for 6.3% (n = 347) of the total 5,510 notifications. A significant upward trend in the number of cases was observed, with 2023 and 2024 concentrating 36% of the total for the period. The predominant profile was male (69.2%), residing in urban areas (87.9%), and in the 60-69 age group (68.0%). Statistical analysis (p = 0.1628) suggests that the increase in the disease is a systemic phenomenon, not restricted to a specific age group. Conclusion: The findings indicate a silent and growing syphilis epidemic among the elderly in Roraima, with vulnerabilities heightened by the border context. It is imperative to strengthen epidemiological surveillance and implement sexual health policies that integrate this population, focusing on education, early diagnosis, and care for vulnerable groups.
