Abstract

Objective: To analyze the importance of the dentist's role in the early diagnosis of oral lesions, highlighting their contribution to the identification of local and systemic changes, aiming at promoting more preventive and integrated care for the patient's health. Literature review: The dentist plays an essential role in the detection of oral manifestations that may indicate local or systemic diseases. Pathologies such as diabetes mellitus, syphilis, HIV and HPV often present initial signs in the oral cavity, which reinforces the need for a detailed clinical examination and a well-conducted anamnesis. In addition, it is essential that the professional knows when to request additional tests and refer the patient for specialized medical evaluation. The literature highlights that the early identification of these changes contributes to the reduction of complications and improvement of the prognosis, making the dentist an important link in the multidisciplinary diagnosis. Final considerations: It can be considered that the dentist's role is essential in the early recognition of oral lesions with potential diagnostic potential for systemic diseases. Your ongoing training and integration with other healthcare professionals are essential to ensure safer, more efficient and humanized care.
