Abstract

Objective: To analyze the occurrence of Metabolic Syndrome (MS) and cardiovascular risk (CVR) in women with breast cancer undergoing Adjuvant Endocrine Therapy (AET) with tamoxifen citrate, attended at the outpatient service of a public hospital in Belém, Brazil. Methods: Observational, descriptive study with a qualitative and quantitative approach, conducted from 2022 to 2024 with 110 women. Sociodemographic, clinical, anthropometric, and biochemical data (glucose, lipid profile, C-reactive protein) were collected. MS was determined according to the NCEP-ATP III criteria and CVR by the Framingham Risk Score. Statistical analyses included Chi-square test and Pearson correlation. Results: MS occurred in 49.09% of participants, with low HDL levels (83.64%) and increased waist circumference (75.45%) as the main components. Most participants were overweight or obese (81.81%) and had elevated cardiovascular risk (64.54%). Positive correlations were observed between the number of MS components, triglycerides, waist circumference, and CVR. Conclusion: The high prevalence of metabolic disorders and cardiovascular risk highlights the importance of continuous clinical and multidisciplinary monitoring to prevent cardiometabolic complications during AET.
