Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the presence, diversity, and antimicrobial susceptibility of microorganisms isolated from high-touch surfaces in a Higher Education Institution in the southwest of Minas Gerais. Methods: Fifteen samples were collected from different sectors (Polyclinic, Canteen, Restrooms, Corridor, and Library) using sterile swabs, followed by microbiological isolation, Gram staining, biochemical tests, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Results: Microbial growth was observed in 100% of the samples, with the isolation of 45 colonies and higher microbial load on high-touch surfaces, especially in areas with intense circulation. A predominance of Staphylococcus aureus was observed, along with the detection of Streptococcus pyogenes, Enterobacter spp., Morganella morganii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Bacillus spp., including microorganisms with relevant pathogenic potential. Antimicrobial susceptibility analysis showed, in general, sensitivity to the tested agents, except for cases of ampicillin resistance among Enterobacteriaceae, possibly associated with β-lactamase production. Conclusion: Shared-use surfaces represent potential vectors for pathogen transmission, reinforcing the need for strict hygiene protocols and continuous microbiological monitoring in academic environments.
