Abstract

Objective: To analyze the scientific evidence on nursing care for families experiencing neonatal death. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, conducted in the MEDLINE, LILACS, BDENF, and SciELO databases. Eight complete articles published between 2021 and 2025 were selected. Results: Nursing care in neonatal loss focuses on humanization and communicative competence, acting as crucial emotional support for vulnerable families. By validating grief and combating its invisibility, these professionals function as an empathetic link that mitigates isolation and ensures that care is perceived as welcoming, transcending the merely technical model. Furthermore, nursing practice in supporting neonatal bereavement should be structured around the use of the "therapeutic self" and the observance of bioethical precepts, notably autonomy and the principle of non-abandonment. Final considerations: This perspective ensures that the family receives the necessary support to give new meaning to the experience of loss, exercising its protagonism through active participation in shared decision-making processes.
