Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effect of using WhatsApp® for preoperative guidance based on institutional and surgical quality indicators. Methods: A quasi-experimental, quantitative study was conducted at a philanthropic institution in northwestern Paraná over three months in 2025. Two educational virtual brochures were developed and both sent to patients the day before their procedure. The research was conducted in two stages: stage 1: sending the virtual brochures via WhatsApp®; stage 2: analysis of patient records to collect data related to operational indicators. 218 appointments that met the eligibility criteria were selected. Results: In the sample of 218 (100%), there were 13 (19.86%) surgical cancellations, and the results followed 205 (100%). Regarding the adequacy of the Surgical Center's institutional routines with guidance received via WhatsApp®, the following showed compliance: 102 (96.23%) arrived on time in the accepted group; Compliance in the delivery of exams 98 (92.45%); correct documentation 100 (94.34%); follow-up of institutional observations 93 (87.74%); and adequacy of preoperative preparation 103 (97.17%). Surgical procedures were delayed in 27 (25.47%) cases. Conclusion: WhatsApp® presents itself as a practical, accessible tool capable of enhancing qualified care and optimizing operational indicators.
