Abstract

Objective: To describe the sociodemographic profile, working conditions, health, and lifestyle habits of health sciences faculty at four state universities in Bahia, Brazil. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted with 189 faculty members, using a structured questionnaire administered virtually between April and November 2023. Data were analyzed descriptively with STATA 12.0 software. Results: A predominance of female participants (72.5%), aged between 41 and 50 years (39.7%), self-identified as White (51.3%), married or in a stable union (72.0%), and working under an exclusive dedication regime (66.7%) was observed. Although only 14.8% reported dissatisfaction with their work, a high workload was recorded, with significant participation in research projects (90.5%). Institutional limitations were reported, such as the lack of adequate spaces for rest and meals. Critical indicators of mental health were highlighted, with 65.6% of faculty self-reporting anxiety and continuous use of medication reported by 61.9% of the sample. Conclusion: Despite the maintenance of healthy habits by most participants, work overload and inadequate infrastructure pose risks to well-being, reinforcing the need for institutional policies for psychosocial support and improved working conditions.
