Abstract
Objective: To analyze users' perceptions of the importance of pharmaceutical care in thalidomide pharmacotherapy, highlighting its relevance to health responsibility and treatment safety. Methods: Descriptive study conducted in two stages. Initially, a retrospective analysis of secondary data from the Horus System was conducted, referring to the distribution of thalidomide over five years, to select participants. In the second stage, qualitative research was conducted with users of the drug, through interviews using the focus group technique. Results: A progressive reduction in the use of thalidomide was observed in the period analyzed. The participants recognized pharmaceutical care as an essential element of treatment, emphasizing the pharmacist as a reference in guidance, qualified listening, and strengthening of the bond. Positive perceptions were evident regarding safety, understanding of therapy, health responsibility, and adoption of self-care strategies, demonstrating co-responsibility between users and health services. Conclusion: Pharmaceutical care proved to be fundamental in promoting adherence, safety, and effectiveness of thalidomide therapy. The in-depth qualitative approach stands out as a strength, with the local scope and limited number of participants as limitations.
