Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical manifestations of visceral leishmaniasis in men, identifying factors associated with disease severity and clinical outcomes. Methods: This is an integrative literature review conducted in the PubMed, SciELO, LILACS, Scopus, Web of Science, and DOAJ databases. The search strategy used controlled descriptorsspecific to eachdatabase and free terms combined with Booleanoperators. Original studies published between 2010 and 2024 that addressed clinical manifestations, severity factors, or clinical outcomes were included. After screening, seven studies comprised the final sample. Results: The disease was predominant in adultsaged 18 to 73 years, with clinical manifestations such as prolongedfever, hepatosplenomegaly, weightloss, and pancytopenia. Factors such as jaundice, thrombocytopenia, secondarybacterial infections, and HIV co-infection were associated with greater severity and lethality. Mortalityranged from 2% to 26,9%, being higher in immunosuppressed patients. The influence of the immune response modulated by male sex hormones on the clinical evolution of the disease was alsohighlighted. Final considerations: Visceral leishmaniasis presents particular clinical characteristics in men, with a more pronounced severity and more complex prognoses. The findings reinforce the need for specificstrategies for men's health care in endemicregions of the disease.
