Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the knowledge, sun exposure habits, and photoprotection practices among Community Health Agents (CHAs) in the municipality of Picos-PI. Methods: A quantitative, cross-sectional, and descriptive study was conducted with 89 CHAs working in Basic Health Units. Data collection took place between November 2024 and March 2025, using a structured questionnaire with sociodemographic information, time and schedule of sun exposure, use of chemical and mechanical photoprotection, and knowledge about risks. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Fisher's Exact Test, with a significance level of 5%. Results: The majority were female, aged between 51 and 60 years, and with more than 15 years of service. Most reported daily sun exposure between 2 and 6 hours, mainly during times of higher radiation intensity. Irregular use of sunscreen was observed, with low reapplication, amounts lower than recommended, and reduced adherence to lip balm and mechanical protection. Some participants reported episodes of sunburn. Conclusion: Community health workers have high occupational sun exposure and inadequate photoprotection practices, highlighting the need for educational actions and institutional strategies focused on occupational health.
