Abstract

Objective: To map Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) strategies for HIV in higher-vulnerability populations and to identify the role of pharmacists in access and adherence. Methods: A scoping review conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidelines, using the PCC acronym (Participants: PrEP distribution/dispensing services; Concept: HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis; Context: vulnerable populations). Searches were performed in Lilacs, PubMed, SciELO, Cochrane, JBI Evidence Synthesis, ScienceDirect, CAPES, and Google Scholar, from 2021 to 2026. Studies were managed using Mendeley® and selected through Rayyan®. Results: Nineteen articles were included. Most had a very low level of evidence (57.9%). Only 3 studies (15.7%) addressed the pharmacist's role, highlighting a literature gap. Socioeconomic factors, stigma, education, and race were the main determinants of PrEP access and adherence. Final considerations: PrEP is an effective strategy, but structural and social barriers limit its reach in vulnerable populations. Pharmaceutical care is promising but underexplored, requiring more robust studies and inclusive public policies.
