Abstract

Objective: To report a case of partial obstruction of the cleft lip and palate with acrylic resin obturator plate. Detailing the case: Patient of 30 year old, sought the service sector of the patient with special needs of the dental clinic of the University Center of the State of Pará, complaining of aesthetic problems and reporting that fluid from the oral cavity flowed into the nasal cavity. As a treatment proposal, an acrylic resin sealing plate was suggested. This therapeutic proposal proves to be efficient for these cases, showing the importance of the dental surgeon being attentive to an effective clinical examination, besides a correct diagnosis. Discussion: For the patients affected, the surgical procedure, besides a solution, ends up being a challenge not only aesthetic, but also functional, psychological and cognitive. The obturator prostheses block hard cleft palates and command the same principles of conventional prostheses, promote stability, retention and support. For an effective rehabilitation of individuals with FLP, it is necessary a multidisciplinary team, involving the medical and dental areas, besides inclusion of phonoaudiology, social service, nursing and psychology.
