Abstract
Objective: To analyze the legal documents that fostered and promoted the inclusion of discussions and guidelines on sexuality and sexual education in Brazil. Methods: This is a qualitative study, documentary analysis and bibliographic research. Results: The National Curriculum Guidelines drawn up in 1997 brought sexual orientation as a proposal for knowledge and valorization of sexual and reproductive rights, prevention of sexual abuse and unwanted pregnancy. In 2001, the National Education Plan (PNE) introduced issues of sexuality in its objectives and goals for teacher training courses. In the 2014-2024 version of PNE, the device that envisaged sexual orientation in school contexts was removed from its content. In 2017, the National Common Curricular Base was introduced, where the issue of sexuality in the school context was limited to reproduction and sexually transmitted diseases, contemplated only in the subject of Sciences in the eighth year. Final considerations: We observed that there was a mechanism of prohibition and silencing to control and regulate the issue of sexuality in the school in the most recent documents, rebutting the right to information. We noted the urgent need to go ahead in the discussions of the advances and retreats permeating the issue of sexuality and sexual education in the official documents and to change the current scenario of the curricular proposals in Brazil.
