Abstract

Objective: to analyze the epidemiological data of tuberculosis in the State of Minas Gerais. Methods: data collection involved retrospective and transversal, descriptive analysis with quantitative data approach. The epidemiological data were compiled from the Hospital information system of the unified health system (SIH/SUS). Results: 73,837 TB cases were recorded in the State of Minas Gerais during the period of 2001 to may 2016, 80% being the pulmonary form. There was a decrease of incidence of the disease, in 2002 to 5902 4038 in 2015. The main risk factors recorded are: the age group between 20 and 39 years old (40%), male (68%) and the white race and Brown (65%). He stressed that the success in treating tuberculosis correlates with patient education, considering that those illiterate or only with complete basic education, have 10% more chance of evolution for complications. Conclusion: the prevalence and incidence of tuberculosis, relatively high in Brazil when compared to the global context, underscore the need for epidemiological studies-environmental and sociodemographic, aiming to the understanding of the needs in each health region. In view of this, the direct approach of risk factors coupled with prophylactic measures of specific health education in the regional context, allow the reduction of cases of occurrence of tuberculosis, in addition to minimize their damage.
