Abstract
Objetive: To review, in the scientific literature, alternatives in the treatment of vulvovaginal atrophy in postmenopausal patients using lasers and radiofrequency. Methods: Bibliographic review approach. Data collection was performed between July and October of 2018 using as descriptors “Genital Atrophy”, "Laser therapy for the genitourinary syndrome" and "New treatment" inserted in the databases PUBMED, UPTODATE, NCBI and Science Direct, using as inclusion criterion original articles available, published between 2013 and 2018, in English and Portuguese. Results: We evaluated 18 articles that compose this research, in which it was verified that the use of lasers based on CO2, Er: YAG and radiofrequency have satisfactory results in the treatment of vulvovaginal atrophy, with improvements in the quality of life and sexual activities and decrease of the discomfort and pains that affect patients. Conclusion: Based on recent research on new methods for the treatment of vulvovaginal atrophy, the use of lasers appears as an advantageous therapeutic option, since they are of single application and do not require medication.
