Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to identify studies in the literature that address the efficacy of core imageguided breast biopsy. Method: For that, an integrative review of the literature was carried out, based on periodicals published in the Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SCIELO), from 2010 to 2016, in the Portuguese language, in full, based on the combination of the descriptors: core biopsy, breast and imaging guided biopsy. The search totaled 21 studies selected for analysis, of which eight met the inclusion criteria. Results: The results indicated that the content of the detected articles was related to the advantages and disadvantages of the core biopsy and to the question of the sample collected in the exams if it was really representative of the whole lesion. Conclusion: According to the present article, it can be concluded that core image-guided breast biopsy is essential in the diagnosis of breast lesions, since its practice gave the patients a better accuracy, a more accessible cost and a conclusive diagnosis. It was verified with the studies that the concordance rate of the sample collected in the CB in relation to the histological type was 76% and that the sensitivity is directly proportional to the volume of the collected fragments. The technological advances in the imaging tests have made possible a quality gain in the accomplishment of breast CB.
