Abstract

Objective: To understand how sexuality is experienced in climacteric within its psychological, sociocultural and biological aspects. Bibliographic review: The climacteric, by itself, provides changes in the physical and psychological of women that, together with the stigma of aging that it carries, can have negative consequences for women to experience this period. It is inferred then that female sexuality and this experience in the climacteric go far beyond the limits of sex and the physiological changes of this period of life. Analyzing the entire universe that permeates the climacteric woman, it is also the duty of health professionals to be prepared to understand, welcome and instruct this woman, with all her particularity, and help her to live this phase of life more fully, overcoming the difficulties, taboos, fears and insecurities. Final considerations: Thus, climacteric and female sexuality are, even today, complex and difficult issues to be addressed by all the historical burden, permeated by taboos, that surround them. In addition, experiencing the climacteric, in all its nuances, is a complex process that requires family and multi-professional support.
