Resumo
Objetivo: Avaliar a autopercepção de impactos das condições bucais na qualidade de vida de pacientes fumantes, por meio do instrumento OHIP-14. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo transversal, com 48 pacientes fumantes atendidos nas clínicas odontológicas da universidade entre 2015 e 2016. Os critérios clínicos incluíram índices periodontais como profundidade de sondagem, índice gengival, nível de inserção clínica e índice de placa visível. Foi aplicado o questionário OHIP-14 para mensurar os impactos na qualidade de vida relacionados à saúde bucal. Resultados: A maioria dos participantes era do sexo masculino e na faixa etária de 20 a 40 anos. A prevalência de periodontite foi alta, com maior frequência nos estágios I e II generalizados. A maioria dos pacientes apresentou nível médio de impacto no OHIP-14, sendo mais elevado entre aqueles com maior tempo de tabagismo. Mulheres relataram maior impacto forte em comparação aos homens. Além disso, o tempo e intensidade do hábito de fumar mostraram associação com pior condição periodontal e maior impacto na qualidade de vida. Conclusão: O tabagismo influencia negativamente a saúde periodontal e compromete a qualidade de vida dos pacientes, sendo mais evidente em fumantes de longa duração.
