Resumo

Objective: To identify risk factors for Clostridrioides difficile infection (CDI) in adult patients admitted to intensive care units. Methods: Integrative literature review, carried out by searching the PubMed database, including articles that evaluated risk factors for CDI in patients admitted to intensive care units. The keywords used were “Clostridioides difficile”, “risk factors” and “intensive care units”. Results: The search resulted in 74 articles, 23 were pre-selected for reading and analysis, of which 11 were excluded according to the objective and inclusion criteria, and 12 articles were included. Final considerations: Risk factors for CDI include the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, prolonged hospitalization, intensive care unit stay, severe illness, advanced age, immunosuppressive therapy, enteral nutrition, proton pump inhibitors, presence of comorbidities and metabolic disorders. Knowledge of these factors is essential for prevention and good therapeutic management of hospitalized patients, especially in intensive care units.
