Abstract
Objective: It estimates the incidence and factors associated with congenital syphilis (CS) in the Intermediate Geographical Regions (IGRs) in the State of Pará. Method: Descriptive, quantitative, analytical study on CS in Pará using data from the Notification System from 2007 to 2016. Results: Increasing CS cases, with Belém and Marabá being the IGRs with more cases. The variables that were associated (p <0.05) with the occurrence of CS were maternal schooling (RR=1.06; IC95% 1.00-1.25) and non-white skin color (RR = 0.71 , IC95% 0.66-0.77). Altamira had the highest percentage of mothers under the age of 20 years. Prenatal care varied (65.8% to 90.1%). The diagnosis during prenatal care had an expressive variation. Inadequate treatment of mothers and untreated partners prevailed in the Altamira and Marabá Regions, respectively. Conclusion: Increasing incidence in women older than 20 years in all IGRs. The inadequate treatment, absence of treatment of the partner and diagnosis of syphilis after childbirth were expressive, justifying the high incidence of CS.
