Abstract

Objective: To clarify the influence of physical exercise on the quality of life of postmenopausal women. Methods: Integrative review carried out in the databases PubMed, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (Medline), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (Lilacs) and Bibliographical Index Español en Ciencias de la Salud (Ibecs), with the descriptors (postmenopausal OR postmenopause) AND (exercise OR “physical activity”) AND health AND “quality of life”. Results: After applying the determined criteria, 10 articles that performed different interventions with physical exercise were included; being resistance training, aerobic training or both. As for the assessment of quality of life, the articles used the short-form questionnaire for quality of life SF-36, the Cervantes scale and the Menopause Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire (MENQOL). Final considerations: Physical exercise has the potential to improve the Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) of postmenopausal women, whether through strength training, aerobic training, or both together. However, due to the small number of articles included in the present review, the data presented here need to be considered and analyzed based on other articles in the literature.
