Abstract
Objective: To describe the importance of the nurse's role in palliative care for cancer patients. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, data collection was carried out through current articles on the subject studied on the following sites: SCIELO, Virtual Health Library (BVS), Acervo+ Index Base and in the Google Scholar search engine obeying a time frame between the years 2018 and 2022. Results: The results indicate that the professional nurse has a fundamental role in providing humanized care, establishing a relationship with the patient that minimizes the suffering caused by the disease. This connection starts from diagnosis to palliative care, providing better acceptance and at the same time offering relief measures for suffering. Final considerations: The professional-patient-family triad is an indispensable link that is developed through interpersonal communication, understanding the patient in the smallest details, seeing him in a holistic way, promoting a better quality of life associated with palliative care.
