Abstract

Objective: To describe the epidemiological characteristics of patients with proximal femur fractures submitted to surgical treatment. Methods: Retrospective and descriptive study, in which the medical records of patients with proximal femur fractures who underwent surgical treatment were evaluated in a public hospital in the State of Goiás from September/2020 to January/2022. The data evaluated were age, sex and type of fracture. Results: In our study, a total of 620 hospitalizations for proximal femur fractures that underwent surgical treatment were evidenced. Of the total number of hospitalizations, 53.71% were female and 71.45% of the patients were elderly. The mean age of the sample was 67.05±19.32 years, which was higher in males (p<0.01). In our study, three groups of fractures were identified: transtrochanteric (56.45%), femoral neck (28.87%) and subtrochanteric (14.68%), but with no significant difference in relation to the type of fracture and sex (p=0.19). Conclusion: It was concluded that most of patients admitted to a Hospital of Urgencies of Goiás due to a fracture of proximal femur were female and that most of fractures were of the transtrochanteric type.
