Abstract
Objective: To conduct an integrative review of falls in the elderly with a focus on prevention. Methods: Data collection was developed in the electronic environment, from the search for scientific articles that demonstrated relevance to compose the results. Scientific platforms such as Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Lilacs and PubMed were used. Articles published in Portuguese and English were selected, published between 2017 and 2022. Results: The fall in the elderly is an unintentional act that causes adverse situations in the quality of life of the elderly, and the residence of the same the most propitious environment for this fall. The fall can be caused by the aging body, where the reduction in the proportion of anaerobic muscle fibers of rapid contraction. Final considerations: As a way to prevent this negative effect on the life of the elderly, studies indicate that it should perform physical activities that combine strength, balance, coordination and flexibility performed at least three times a week.
