Abstract
Objective: To report the first case of transtrochanteric fracture repaired using Proximal Femoral Nail (PFN). Case detail: This is a case report, documentary and qualitative, analyzing an elderly patient, male, affected by a transtrochanteric fracture, who underwent a PFN surgical procedure performed in a hospital in the state of Paraíba. Data collection involved interviews and collection of information from the medical records, focusing on anamnesis, clinical investigation, physical examination, location of the lesion and its descriptions, correlating with the imaging tests used. Final considerations: The patient presented a good response to the submission of the PFN method surgery, even more so in the post-surgical rehabilitation. The use of Proximal Femoral Nail for correction of transtrochanteric fractures can reduce treatment comorbidities, indicating the effectiveness of the implant in stabilizing fractures of the proximal femur, which enables the reduction of small blood loss and allows for early weight bearing.
