Abstract

Objective: To identify the therapies used in the treatment of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) discussed in the scientific community, as a way to help in the therapeutic choice. Methods: An integrative bibliographic review of the literature, through an active search in the Virtual Health Library, U.S National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes Health and EBSCOHost databases, using two Health Science Descriptors in English, plus the operator boolean, AND << “Polycystic Ovary Syndrome” AND Therapeutics >>, published in the last five years and with full text. Results: The final sample, composed of 33 articles, showed a predominance of publications from Egypt and China, in EBSCOHost and prospective clinical studies. As for treatment, Letrozole for infertility, dietary intervention and modulation of the intestinal microbiota for hyperandrogenism, and Metformin for the metabolic changes present in PCOS were identified. Final considerations: The therapies used in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome should be according to the individual complaint of the patient and their effectiveness, the most studied being Letrozole, dietary intervention, modulation of the intestinal microbiota and Metformin.
