Abstract
Objective: To elucidate the repercussions of the main psychotherapeutic approaches (cognitive-behavioral therapy and family therapy) in the follow-up of adolescents diagnosed with eating disorders. Methods: This is a systematic literature review, using the PICO strategy as a way to establish the central research question. The search was conducted in the VHL and PubMed databases, using the Health Science Descriptors Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Therapy and Eating Disorders. The evaluation of quality and evidence was based on the GRADE method. The filtering of studies was based on the PRISMA recommendation. Results: All of the randomized clinical trials (RCTs) analyzed in the research presented moderate level of evidence. The interventions used, when compared to no therapy, showed significant advantages regarding the evolution of the population observed. Both family therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy showed satisfactory findings in the follow-up of the patients evaluated, so that the data found in the RCTs complement each other. Final considerations: There was agreement among authors regarding beneficial effects provided by both CBT and family therapy. There were limitations due to the restricted number of randomized clinical trials addressing the subject.
