Abstract
Objective: To measure the levels of imposter syndrome (IS) in university students of the medical course in the interior of Paraíba; to compare the levels of SI in terms of sex and to characterize the sample. Methods: The study was quantitative in nature. Participants were 140 undergraduate medical students, who answered sociodemographic questions and the Clance Scale of the Impostor Phenomenon. Results: It can be seen that they were mostly male (55.7%), single (86.4%), upper-middle socioeconomic class (52.1%), catholics (74.3%), Average Age = 23.93 years (SD = 4.8) and are in Phase 2 (4th to 8th period) of the course. These students had an SI level of M = 3.2 (SD = 0.89). It was also found that women have statistically higher scores (M = 3.5; SD = 0.79) than men (M = 2.9; SD = 0.92). Conclusion: It was observed that medical students present a score that reaches an average level of the Imposter Syndrome scale, refuting the hypothesis that they would present high scores. Furthermore, the hypothesis that levels of Imposter Syndrome are different between men and women was confirmed, since it was evidenced that women have a statistically higher score than men.
