Abstract

Objective: To identify in the literature measures to prevent the occurrence of Urinary Tract Infection associated with Urinary Catheterization (AC-UTI). Methods: Integrative review whose search occurred in the databases Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrievel System Online and in the Bibliographic Database Specialized in the Nursing Area. Inclusion criteria were articles published in the last 5 years, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, with the theme of urinary infection related to bladder catheterization in hospitalized patients and the performance of the nursing team. Studies from literature reviews, articles that addressed microorganisms or drug therapies and other types of urinary devices were excluded. Results: Good practices in catheter maintenance are essential to avoid AC-UTI, including hand hygiene and antisepsis of the perineal region, keeping the collection bag below the level of the bladder, which should be emptied when it reaches two thirds of its capacity and system. always closed. Final considerations: The nursing team has a considerable responsibility in the prevention of AC-UTI, thus, it is necessary that they are aware of the risk factors and complications that are associated and provide assistance seeking to prevent the development of this problem.
