Abstract
Objective: To analyze and review the main articles available on cholangiography in the diagnosis of choledocholithiasis. Literature review: MRI cholangiography has been used more frequently in the diagnosis of complications of cholelithiasis. It is useful in the evaluation of the intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile duct, in addition to the pancreatic duct. In addition, it is critical in the diagnosis of primary or secondary sclerosing cholangitis. Studies have pointed out the accuracy of MRI cholangiography in the evaluation of diseases affecting the biliary tract, especially of the anatomically more proximal biliary segments, i.e., those that are close to the hepatic hilum and the intrahepatic tree. The absence of the routine need for sedation and exposure to radiation, makes this method an attractive option in the diagnosis of choledocholithiasis. Final considerations: From this study, it was possible to identify that cholangioresonance is an effective option with high sensitivity and specificity to evaluate the intra and extrahepatic bile duct, as well as the pancreatic duct. Besides being fundamental in the diagnosis of primary or secondary sclerosing cholangitis. Therefore, when well indicated, it allows an accurate diagnosis and improves the patient's quality of life.
